Creating a Landscape

Your account contains a set of market landscapes. Each landscape is a collection of companies, competitors, or influencers you want to track as a group for competitive or comparative analysis.

To create a landscape:

1. Click the Landscape dropdown on the top left of the screen and select Create New Landscape.

2. Enter a name for the landscape and click Next, Add Companies.

3. Follow the prompts to add companies by specifying their website URLs and clicking Add to Landscape. For companies that don't have websites, you can use a social channel URL like https://www.instagram.com/starbucks/.

The first company you add is designated as your Focus Company, which means reports in this landscape will focus on this company. You can switch the Focus Company at any time.

4. (Recommended) Add at least 3 additional companies to the landscape to ensure meaningful comparisons and landscape averages.

5. Click Create Landscape.

TIPS: Here are few landscape building tips.

  • You can track the same company in multiple landscapes but your account will only be charged for using one company.

  • You can track a company’s presence throughout different geographical regions (for example, us.coca-cola.com, coca-cola.co.uk). Add each regional presence as a separate company.

Customizing Your Landscape

Click Landscape > Landscape Settings on the left navigation bar or go to Landscape Settings.

Here you can update the time zone, as well as rename, share, duplicate, or delete your landscape.

Editing Social Handles

Click Landscape > Companies on the left navigation bar or go to Companies.

Review the social handles that Rival IQ detected for the companies you added.

  • Hover over a checkmark icon to view the handle that Rival IQ found.

  • To edit the social channel, click Edit in the popover.

Removing Companies

To remove the company from the landscape, click the trashcan icon under the company name.

Changing the Focus Company

To change your Focus Company, click Change Focus Company button at the top right. This adjusts all reports in this landscape to focus on this company.

Hiding and Unhiding Channels

To change which channels to display in your reports, toggle the checkmark under each channel on or off. Rival IQ will continue to collect the history for all social handles that are associated with each company even if the channel is hidden.

Other Ways to Use Landscapes

Consider building landscapes in the following ways:

  • By Competitor: Add at least 3 competitors. If you add many competitors, consider using company filters for additional control over your landscape.

  • By Division: If your company has one or more divisions, try using a landscape to track all the divisional social pages in one place.

  • By Country: If your company has operations in multiple countries, use landscape to compare each country, or create a separate landscape for each country.

  • By Social Role: Your company may have more than one social handle for a digital channel. Add specific handles owned by the same company to compare them as stand-alone companies, like http://twitter.com/starbucks and http://twitter.com/starbucksnews.

  • For influencers or ambassadors: To track the social contributions of any influencer programs you're running, build a landscape of your ambassadors.
