Is there an outlier post that is skewing your results? For instance, a post that bombed or one that was boosted and did unusually well.
Is your Top vs Bottom skewed by several posts that have been deleted so we can only display the text?
By creating and applying a custom Post Tag you can filter out specific posts and ensure they don't affect your overall analysis. Follow these steps to learn how to remove unwanted posts from your analytics.
Create a Post Tag
To start, you'll need to create a Post Tag designed to exclude posts:
1. In the Landscape section of the left navigation, click Post Tag Manager.
2. Select Create New Tag and name it something like "Exclude" to help identify posts that shouldn't be included in your analysis.
3. Choose the type of tag you want to create:
Set up a Keyword-Based Rule to automatically tag posts based on specific words or phrases.
Opt for Manual Tagging to manually select posts yourself.
☝ TIP: You can combine keyword-based and manual tags to simplify your process with some automation, but still give you the ability to add posts that don't include specific keywords.
Tag the Posts for Exclusion
Now that you’ve created your "Exclude" tag, it's time to apply it to the posts you want to remove from analytics.
1. Head to Social Analytics and click on Social Posts.
2. Make sure your view is set to List and Show Post Tags.
3. Review your posts and identify those with poor engagement that you'd like to exclude.
4. Click the Add Tag icon, and apply the "Exclude" tag.
Your posts are now tagged and ready to be filtered out of your analytics.
Filter Out the Tagged Posts
Once posts are tagged, use advanced filters to ensure they’re excluded from your analysis:
1. At the top of the page, click on the Post Tag drop down and select the "Exclude" tag.
2. Then click Advanced Filters and make sure to select Exclude.
3. Apply the filter to update your metrics and view the impact without the excluded posts.
See the Results
Once you've applied the "Exclude" tag and filter, any posts tagged with "Exclude" will be omitted from your analytics. This ensures your metrics reflect only the content you want to analyze. The profile metrics will automatically adjust to reflect the exclusion, giving you a more precise analysis of your content's performance.
